<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You have to remember these are still unfocused sources even if they aren't open and broard, ie there's no fresnel, so while directional they aren't hard- it's the same principle as sticking a snoot at the end of an open lamp like a blonde or redhead. Your DP would have been using them as kickers because the light is slightly directional with a little enough spread not to generate a tiny hotspot, and a hard small fresnel focused light makes for one very limiting kicker.

What is the color temperature on those LED lights generally? I don't have one, but I remember seeing one and thinking the light was blue-ish. Does anyone know if they are closer to daylight or tungsten?

I don't know for sure but I would guess 5000-5500. I gelled the shit out of mine to make them deep red.

Frys Electronics in the USA has quite a big selection of LED lights as well as those multi-million candlepower lamps/firestarters. [img]eek.gif[/img]

I found several colors of LED lights available but ultimately they just did not look good on video (I bought the green one to fake "military-style" night vision). I found it better to use a regular spotlight and color it in post.

Unfortunately it doesn't provide anything like enough light to be helpful in any situation, although it certainly would make a very decent torch (which to be fair is what it was made for). I didn't take any pics, because my brother has my camera, but to be honest, there would not have been a lot of point.
